Long-Term Running Goals:
Have fun training and racing.
Sub-17 5K
Sub-1:17 Half Marathon
Quality for the Olympic Trials in the marathon
Personal:
I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.
I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)
I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.
Yesterday I developed some very specific pain in my lower right abdominal region. I feel like this pain has been coming on for a month or so now, but now it's at the point where it hurts to the touch. It's not bothering me when I'm running - just afterwards. I talked to a nurse that I work with and he gave me a list of 20 things it could be. Oh, the drama of this injury!
PM - 2.3 miles outside in the fresh air!
Running on the Alter-G yesterday -
Night Sleep Time: 9.00
Nap Time: 0.00
Total Sleep Time: 9.00
Weight: 113.00

The last time I had pain there, they had to slice out my appendix! I think you'd know if that's what it is though.
Hopefully it will go away with the rest of the pains. Almost seems like a nightmare game of whack-a-mole with your injuries.

That's what I was worried about at first... but as she pointed out herself, Andrea doesn't have the pain tolerance to "tough out" an appendix issue :-)

Definately your ovary.
You better get my room ready :(

Definitely ovarys.
Cool Alter-G video! :-)

I don't have any of the other symptoms of appendicitis so I'm probably safe on that front...although part of me wishes I could just get it removed and all my injury problems would go away.
What's wrong with my ovary?!
From Andrea on Wed, Dec 19, 2012 at 10:20:31 from 72.37.171.52
Lulu - haha just remembered your ovary problems :)

That thing is pretty crazy - not at all what I had pictured but that's not surprising. Now I see why it's a dollar a minute. It would be cool to watch your own feet while you run.

Those treadmills cost $50-75K. Alberto Salazar bought the first 4 they built. At the time everyone thought he was nuts. Now they are popping up all over the place.

Wow that alter-G video is pretty cool and definitely not at all what I was picturing. Is it uncomfortable?

I think my favorite part of the AlterG explosion is that there is now an "AlterG SENIOR" model... pic on the right:

Cool video. That brings new meaning to the term bubble butt!
And for the record, there is nothing wrong with my ovary. I just like to make my PT blush :)

The Alter-G is awesome. If a PT clinic has an Alter-G I found out that it is just billed to insurance as a part of therapy which is very good :) So half of my use on the Alter-G is covered and the rest I am using as a $100/month...but that is totally worth it to me for 2 months because it is helping a ton.
It's not uncomfortable really, slightly restricting in that you stay in the exact same spot on the treadmill and a little less movement on the pelvis.
You can actually see that I've developed a slight circumduction in my right foot...hopefully that will subside as I start getting better.

The "AlterG Senior" looks exactly like the regular one. Except that there's an old lady on it.

Before I had children there was a period of time when I got "contraction-like" pain after I ran. (It ranged from a dull ache to severe pain in my lower abdomen) It had something to do with the release of prostaglandins while running. The Dr. rxed me a prostaglandin inhibitor (NSAIDS work too) that really helped me. Good luck, Andrea!!!

Definately sounds like the symptoms of a ovarian cyst. Come to me for a Ultrasound:)

That's an awesome video, It's great that you've found something which allows you to keep training.

I really feel like this post should include what you WORE for the afternoon run... :-)
From Andrea on Thu, Dec 20, 2012 at 10:59:14 from 72.37.171.52
Sometimes I get lazy and just wear my work clothes to run in! Only like 10 weird stares.
