Personal:

I am originally from Knoxville, TN and moved to SLC with Jake in 2010. I started racing in 2011 and had some great success before a major injury hit me in July 2012. I had athletic pubalgia surgery in May 2013...then again in Sept 2014 and am still trying to get back to my old self. Although running is my true passion, I love doing pretty much anything active outdoors - backcountry skiing, backpacking, biking, etc.

I've been running for the Saucony Team since 2011. I enjoy representing the brand and really do believe they make the best shoes :)

I work as a Quality Engineer for BD Medical in Sandy.

AM - 10 miles around Sugarhouse, a nice zigzag through all the neighborhoods. I haven't slept very well for about a week now and it's getting really frustrating!

This is me 2 years ago finishing a half marathon (I'm also at my highest weight here - I look gross!). Can you believe I can run 36 minutes faster than that now??

 PM - 2.2 miles, easy.

Not being able to sleep is the absolute worst. I am so sorry and hope it gets better. Very good miles despite the lack of sleep.

Sleep issues -no bueno!

So how in the world have you been able to lose your weight (how much have you lost?) And 36 minutes faster! yayyers girl!! :)

From Jake K on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 16:13:11 from 155.100.226.53

Can you believe that in a couple months you'll hit the halfway point of a marathon about THIRTY MINUTES faster than that and say to yourself, "Alright, right on pace, now its negative split time"

From Lulu Walls on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 16:29:45 from 155.101.137.249

Wow that gives some serious hope to us slow pokes :) Still trying to figure out the part where you look gross...

From Andrea on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 18:27:44 from 72.37.244.100

Lily - I've lost about 10 pounds since then, about 5 pounds in the last 8 months or so (which is pretty significant for me). I'm definitely not trying to lose anymore weight though!

Honestly, the difference has been about not getting bored. I only eat a lot when I'm at home with nothing better to do but think about food and eating. I intentionally plan activities in the evenings and weekends so I won't have time to overeat! Running A LOT more has helped too :)

36 minutes... wow... I'd like to drop that on my marathon time (I am not complaining- just thinking another 36 would be sweet!) Nice miles.

From JulieC on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 21:52:13 from 70.56.111.167

so did you just take up running last year? and realized you were so fast you might as well keep it up? SERIOUSLY Awesome!! I love it. I love that runners come in all shapes and sizes/ backgrounds. Makes us all feel connected ; D.

From Hamdog Alum on Mon, Sep 12, 2011 at 22:08:04 from 68.185.190.140

Wow - Congrats Andrea! Something to be very proud of. Always, good to remind yourself of those kind of things when the going gets tough.

From Tara on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 00:06:44 from 75.169.159.201

Ya, you're good....It made some sense to me when I dropped 30 pounds and 27 mins of my half this year (toot toot)..But 10 pounds and a 36 min loss????? Geeze. Gifted.

From Jake K on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 11:23:04 from 155.100.226.53

Hmmm if 10 lbs = 36 minute drop, all I have to do it stop eating ice cream and I should easily break the marathon world record, right? :-)

The difference between just running every day, and actually TRAINING is probably a big part of it too :-)

But seriously, even 2 years ago I knew you had crazy amounts of untapped potential, but you've continually still managed to amaze me with what you are doing.

From emruns on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 17:09:14 from 76.27.114.171

I'd say that more significant than weight loss (though weight loss is a part of it), is that your body composition has changed. It's a little hard to tell, because you are all bundled up, but you are much more defined now, which directly correlates to your amazing training regimen. Yes, you look heavier, no, you don't look gross. Try 40 pounds of post-baby weight!

From Andrea on Tue, Sep 13, 2011 at 17:15:35 from 72.37.244.100

Honestly I only attribute 15% of getting faster to losing weight. The other 85% is about being happier, getting motivated, training hard, and having Jake around :)

Emily - that is why I don't want to have kids any time soon!!

From MichelleL on Thu, Sep 29, 2011 at 23:39:49 from 58.153.15.64

I don't think you look gross, just not elite. So I think I look great (with clothes on) as a size 8-10, but I need to be size 2-4 to race with the big girls. It's small with a purpose :D
