Personal:

I'm married to Nan Kennard and she kicks my butt at running.  She has beat me handily in every race we have done together except for a downhill mile we did once.  She is my running inspiration.  I'd like to run a marathon with her someday and actually keep up.

Today's workout called for a marathon pace run.

2 miles easy, 10 miles @ marathon pace, 2 miles easy.

I did the 10 miles at level 1 incline in 1:02:20 (6:14 avg) on the treadmill at the Flatiron Athletic Club because A) the new treadmill my buddy Eric hooked us up with was delivered without bolts to connect it and B) after my experience with running in the snow yesterday I wasn't interested in braving the elements again yet....I've grown soft apparently.

I did the first 7 miles in 6:18 pace since that is my newer more conservative marathon pace (2:45 marathon pace).  Then I notched it down each mile for the remainder ending up at 6:05 pace because the 6:18 just felt too easy and I was kind of getting bored with it.  I didn't mind running on the treadmill, it was nicer than dealing with the cold and ice, although today was much more beautiful since the sun was out.  But I lost 5 pounds of liquid on the run, 2.5 of it being in my clothes still afterward.  I put my shirt and shorts in the swimming suit strainer and all my sweat poured out onto the floor and down the drain like I was emptying a water bottle.

The workout felt almost too easy though.  I guess that's a good thing.  My body is feeling really good and I don't have any signs of pains or injuries at all.  Apparently the preventative stuff I do each day is working, or my body is just adapting, or both.  Because I'm running more mileage and faster than ever before, and yet feeling better than ever before.

Nice workout! Good sign for your marathon. You sound like you sweat about as much as I do.

Any chance you want to share the details on that preventative stuff you are doing?

From Aaron Kennard on Thu, Oct 27, 2011 at 13:46:01 from 98.245.117.176

Thanks ACorn. Yeah, I sweat a ton when I'm inside. I sweat a lot outside, but inside its just nuts.

TheMr.K - Sure thing. Every day I do a dynamic stretching routine after my run call the 'cannonball cooldown' as depicted here by my ART guy: http://highaltitudesportsrehab.com/2010/11/02/adding-a-hip-mobility-routine-as-part-of-the-cool-down/

3 days per week I do a bunch of pushups and pullups. The other 3 days per week I do the Abripper X core workout from p90X which is just 15 minutes of core work essentially. And just about every day I do active recovery with my compex (shopcompex.com.com) device on my quads and calves. I have been loving the compex for the past 6 months or so and was fortunate enough to have been given one rather than forking over the dough for it. But it has saved me lots of visits to massage and ART therapists I believe.

No one sweats as much as I do, so don't even try. :)

Awesome to hear Aaron. It looks like you are lovin the Altra Instincts as well. Are you going to pick up some Lone peaks?

From Aaron Kennard on Fri, Oct 28, 2011 at 19:26:58 from 98.245.117.176

yeah, Altras are far and away the best running shoe I have ever worn. I'm totally stoked to get the Lone peaks. And now that you mention it, I just checked and they are finally available to order! Which I just did. Which is nice that they finally changed their promised release date far enough out that they were able to over-deliver this time on their promise. The only thing that sucks is they usually take well over a week to process/ship orders in my past experience. So I won't get my hopes up for a couple weeks still.
