I don't really ever eat in the early morning wether I run or not. Don't get hungry until later in the morning. If I am doing a long run I will try to dring some gatorade before going out.

I always try to run on a light stomach and for me that means waiting at least an hour after a meal. So normally if it's an early run I won't eat so I can get out as soon as I wake up. But mostly, no matter what time of day it is, I will eat something like a banana or a handful of trail mix if my stomach feels empty before a run. That usually makes the hunger bearable/forgettable? and then I can grab something more substantial when I get back.

I think it's good to hear different thoughts on this.  I'm also a firm believer in the 5 meals a day thing and not three huge meals.  If you don't eat before your run it definitely gives you the opportunity to have a good breakfast after a good training run, because you've earned i.
