Lots of broken patches of snow and ice in Boise. It doesn't lend itself well to the Yak Trax.  Has anyone ever used screws on their shoes...if so, how is it working?  I just read somewhere about someone use hexagonal sheet metal screws but I can't find the site.

They work pretty well. You have to use hex screws. Regular round screws won't do anything. Here's what you want:

#6 1/2" hex screws. Use a drill to put your pilot holes in the sole of the shoe. Put about 4 around the exterior of the heel- that's where you want most of them. Disperse another 4 around the mid and forefoot.
