Since I was one of the first 10 people on the fastrunningblog I've watched LOADS of people come and go. I was wondering.... Sasha. How many runners are on the blog now? How many are active daily bloggers? How many blog weekly? Monthly? And how many have fallen to the wayside? I think (without looking) I joined in late Feb or March of 2006.

2,334 people have at least 1 entry (some people have multiple blog names, though).  293 have blogged in the last week (probably considered active bloggers), 391 in the last month and 518 in the last 3 months.

Less than 25% have written in the past 3 months?  Not a real great percentage.  And less than half within the past year.  Not surprising, though.  The bigger it gets, the more inactives you'll have.  And the smaller and smaller percent will know each other.  I used to comment on all the "new kids on the blocks".  Now I never do, and hardly ever stray from looking outside ~15 blogs.

Yup, we all used to talk to everybody; but now it just doesn't happen, even with people that I used to always comment on I rarely make a comment even though I will still check up them.  (Maybe that is a good sign, though, that I am wasting less time on the Internet!)

Definitely less of a time-waster than before, but still a good site. I think part of it is that many of us from the "early days" are now a little older (a little more mature), and have less time due to greater commitments with work and expanding families. At least that is the case with myself.

I would piggy-back on the last comment. I think I am about 2 years on the blog now and have learned a great deal about running, fitness, and most important LIFE in general from all of you; especially the "veterans". Thanks!

Paul that was a flashback for sure. Reminded me of blogging my runs at my old job at the hospital. Oh the good ol' days of the blog. We were so young....

You know its the good ol' days if Clyde had a job!

I do really appreciate, though, the value of blog and how it has helped me not only learn from myself but from so many others at various skill levels.

As a relative newcomer to this blog I can definitely say that it has helped my running a lot. I'm 46 now and I know that if I am going to continue racing well that I have to put more thought into my workouts and occasionally introduce new elements into my training. Knowing that a bunch of smart people who's achievements in this sport I respect are reading my blog really helps with that.

I have to agree with many of the posters on this topic (Dan, Colby, Rob...).  The blog has been HUGE for my running.  I would have likely never met Jon, Cody, Paul, Scott, and others if Karl Wilcock hadn't talked me into joining back in 2008.  All of you have been instrumental in helping me learn how to train and how to love running even more than I already did.  Without the blog I probably would have run St. George in 08, blown up, and never tried again.  A heartfelt thanks.
