Wikipedia is a great resource, but sometimes it is wrong. You've got the right Mohamed Ali, but he was faster than that. His 10000 PR is 27:04.92. More info at
http://www.iaaf.org/athletes/biographies/country=ETH/athcode=211464/index.html Now here is the sad thing. Little else is known about him. I could not find one media article or web page that would reveal anything about him beside his times. I thought maybe he would get at least one media article just because of his name. Come on, Mohamed Ali running a serious world-class time in a 10 K, that should be sensational enough for the media, shouldn't?
So we have somebody that runs 9 seconds faster than the current American record, and manages to live in relative obscurity. He is faster than Abdi and Meb. Why such a stark difference in media exposure? The answer is simple. His dad did not immigrate to the US when he was a kid. His English is probably not that good if he speaks it at all. If you are an Ethiopian, you are expected to perform at a much higher level to get noticed. This makes want to go to Ethiopia to teach English and computer basics.
