Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

Today was a blah day.  It was overcast and cool, though-probably well under 80 degrees!  My legs felt beat up, and I had some aches and pains here and there.  The right side of my lower back is really bothering me.  My average pace was 9:55.  After a mental inventory, I realized yesterday was another day of very few carbs.

Yesterday my heel bothered me most of the day.  It was hurting in the same area where my husband's hurts him, and he was recently diagnosed with plantar fasciitis.  His heel is better, but now he thinks he might have a stress fracture.  I read up on plantar fasciitis and realized I have done several things I shouldn't: I ran 16 miles on asphalt on concrete on Saturday, and I ran after wearing heels all day a few times last week.  Then I wore shoes with wooden soles yesterday.  So, no more long runs on asphalt, and today I brought my speedo shower shoes to work.

My motivation is lagging a little bit right now.  I think it's a combination of work stress and a lack of improvement with my average pace.  I will try to do a tempo run this week to gauge my fitness and, hopefully, increase my motivation!  I am VERY thankful for this blog, because it will make me not quit!

No, no, no! You can't loose your motivation! We have a marathon to run in 8 1/2 weeks! Take care of that heel! You don't want PF! I've heard that it is good to roll your foot over a golf or tennis ball. There is also a special sock out there that helped Tom out. Where do you plan to run your long runs now? I always run on asphalt. I'm not sure where I'd run if I didn't. I hope your hubby doesn't have a stress fracture! Is he planning on running SGM? I sure hope you both heal up quickly and fully! Congrats on 6 miles when you were feeling like a blah day!

Low carbs the day before a long run absolutly KILL my long runs.

I am sorry about your heel! Take good care of it. HAng in there! :)

It is hard to stay motivated, but don't give up. Just give your self a little bit of a break - Maybe a lighter week. As for the PF - I used a baseball and it worked great as well as a frozen water bottle. My husband has a little and one of the teams trainers "popped" some joint in his foot and his has been much better. Who knew?
