Personal:

I've been running since high school (mid-1990s) and do pretty well when I'm focused on a goal. My main problem  is running consistently when I'm NOT training for something specific. I'm an attorney, and I've been married to my husband, also a runner, for 5 1/2 years. We live in Phoenix, Arizona.  We had a beautiful baby girl, Caroline, in August 2009.

I did 5 easy miles this morning.  I ran the first two with my husband, who then turned around to go home.  He ran the full 7 miles on Monday and I didn't, so he is still ahead of me on mileage this week.

I felt a little tired, but I haven't been getting enough sleep.  I'm also getting my body used to speedwork again, so it will probably take a few weeks to adjust.  No big deal, right?  Total time was 49:46, average 9:57 pace.  First mile was 10:17 (always takes a bit to get warmed up), and all the rest were under 10:00.

Tomorrow is my first ever downhill run.  We're driving 30 minutes to get there to do 6 miles downhill and then 6 miles of rolling hills.  Should be interesting...

Oh!  I came to the conclusion that the burglars who broke into my house a few weeks ago were definitely adults because they stole my....iron!  Who steals an iron?  (I had thought they might be kids because they came through the doggie door)  The funny thing is, there was a TV in the same room as the iron, and they didn't take the TV!  It was a nice iron, too.

I can't believe they stole your iron! How quirky. Hope it burns their house down. (Forgive my evilness.)

Good job this week, you are doing fabulous. Good luck on your downhill run tomorrow! It'll be great training for St. George. Careful, though. Downhill training that you're not used to can cause an injury. Don't push it too hard. Relax all the way down. (Not that I know anything about downhill running, but that is what Sasha told me.)

I would be sad if my iron got stollen, not because I use it to iron close. Because it is an important tool in making quilts. Good luck at you race tomorrow:) Pretend you are just falling down the hill like a drop of water and let gravity do the work.

Hi. impressive to be running in Phoenix this time of year and not be going at 4:00 am. I lived in PHX for two years and used a treadmill a lot of the time during the summer. Where are you driving to do your downhill training? What part of Phoenix do you live in? WE lived in Peoria. Back in Utah now.

Lybi and Josse, it was a NEW iron that worked very well and cost $60.00! That's a lot for an iron. I am a little concerned that I am doing 5-6 miles of downhill for my first downhill training run, but I'll be sure and take it easy.

Lisa, for some reason it feels much cooler where I am. I live at 7th Ave. and Northern (north/central Phx, about 15 minutes north of downtown). I run on the Central Ave. bridal path, which is completely shaded, so I think it helps keep the area cooler. And I'm usually done with my runs by about 6:45. I am driving to South Mountain for my downhill training. It will be my first time to go there.

OH I thought you were doing a race. It is just a training run, well good luck anyway.

Take it easy on the downhill. You'll be sore but it should be ok. My Dr. says to take shorter steps to help prevent injury.

Great week! Mileage every day- nice! Have fun on the training run.
