Ran a little before and after Alexanders race, but maybe I was being too optimistic in previous blog, very painful below my hip, was hoping it would be better, I guess it will be a slow process

The kids running here in Utah is starting to fall apart a little. Last years 3K race had twice as many kids. There have been alot of setbacks. First Utah Flames ended as a kids track team, youth running director for USATF quit, many of the track meets only had a few kids, now it looks like Wasatch Athletics and Mercury arent going to have cross country races this season. If it wasnt for Phil Olsens efforts at Provo, there wouldnt be many races. Alexander is on a new team with good coaches . Alex says few kids at his school like to run. Many view it as too much work. Or they want to play another sport or they just want to do nothing. From what I can see is the High School programs though seem to have more interest and participation

Michael -

I hope you can continue to heal and be back to racing shape again soon. Best of Luck.

Alex is a great runnner and I think he will run well even if there are few races for his age group. Keep at it and things will turn out ok. He is quite the kid. You should be proud (I am sure you are)

So nice to meet you Michael. Sasha and I talked about Benjamin being on the team and we think it would be fine. I know what you mean about people not being super interested in running for kids. We definitely are! By the way..Alex is a beautiful boy....what a lucky Dad!

Michael, hang in there, give it a chance to heal. Keep up your cardio if possible during the run down time and you won't lose much.

Sarah and Sasha - the team Alex runs for is called Utah Project. The coaches are Mike Durman (801-280-4274) and Mark Oftedal (801-359-7028). They can give you more info. What they usually do is combine the kids as each local team often doesnt have enough runners. They have to run the State-Regional-National together as same team, same uniform etc

Sarah - it was great to meet you and see your "army" of wonderful kids

I would second Brent's advice - do a lot of cross-training. This will keep the cardio up and the weight down. Optimal weight helps a lot in the way of staying injury free. Also, I believe consistent high intensity aerobic exercise has some hidden benefits for keeping the body young. To a certain extent, if you do it right and combine it with proper rest and diet, you can slow down, and maybe even reverse the aging process, at least for quite some time.

Thanks

I have some more specific questions - see my Monday 9/17 blog - if you have time, appreciate it!
