Difference between treadmills and road runnning

During the firsts days of the year we went to the beach and my wife wanted to run with me but could not manage the pace or distance I was doing, so we both 'compromised' and decided to go to the hotel's gym.
It was the first time I used a treadmill in my life; but it was not a bad experience. I took my iPod and listened to my audio book while running. Of course, I prefer hitting the road instead of the TM. But its not that bad if you need to use it here and there ....
