Am I correct in understanding that the Olympic Marathons will be run Saturday the 16th (17th in China), but will not be televised by NBC until the following weekend?

The women's marathon starts on Saturday, the 16th at 5:30 p.m. mountain time.  According to NBC's website it will be televised during the prime time telecast from 6:30 - 9:30.

"Primetime
Four years ago, Deena Kastor won bronze in the women's Olympic marathon, ending a 20-year drought for the U.S. Now she tries for a second medal, while China's top entry Zhou Chunxiu chases victory at home (LIVE ET/CT). Also, the title of "World's Fastest Man" is at stake in the 100m final. American Tyson Gay is the reigning world champion, but a pair of Jamaicans stand in his path: Asafa Powell and world record-holder Usain "Lightning" Bolt."

The men's marathon starts on Saturday, the 23rd at 5:30 p.m. mountain time.

Oh my gosh, Andy, you are a life saver!  I would have watched it at 1am, when I could have during prime time.  I need to reschedule my Saturday now to make room for this.

Thanks!

They won't show the whole thing primetime, though, I bet.  Just snippets.

Yeah, but I think they'll show the same footage at both 6:30 and 1am, they have the same descriptions and the 1am says primetime replay.

Ahh. So Women's M on the 16th, Men's M on the 23rd, both televised on their respective nights at 6:30pm. ... is that 6:30 ET? or does primetime mean 6:30pm your time zone (whatever time zone you live in)?

Perhaps "full coverage" will be shown online.  I will have to check.

You can go on nbcolympics.com and tell them where you live, and they will find your local station and give a synopsis of what is shown in 2-3 hour blocks.  For ksl (Salt Lake City local nbc station) it says 6:30pm (if I read it right this time  Grin ).

Not only is it going to be televised, but the guy who wins it is going to jump off a balcony and die in 2011.

Spoiler alert!
