So Jake and I have been thinking about what we want to do for summer vacation. By vacation, I mean the ultimate fun training camp. We thought it would be super fun if we got a crew to join us this year and why not open it up to FRB to see if anyone is interested.

Destination -
Mammoth Lakes! Elevation 7000-9000ft at the base of the Sierra Nevadas.

Here is a blog post of our adventure last year http://wasatchandbeyond.blogspot.com/2011/07/mammoth-lakes.html (although there probably won't be nearly as much snow).

Dates -
July 21-29, 2012

Opportunities -
Dirt trails, here's a link to lots of popular routes in the area http://www.runmammoth.com/running_routes_main.html
Thousand Island Lakes 17-20 Mile Trail Run http://www.othtc.com/fav_runs/1kislrun/run_main.htm - this is some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.

Over 70 miles of mountain biking on Mammoth Mountain http://www.mammothmountain.com/docs/assets/BPTrailMap2011.pdf
Day trips to June Lake, Mono Lake, Yosemite, secret hot springs, etc.

Possible Rental -
Definitely a place with a hot tub and right next to the creek for ice baths...something like this http://www.vrbo.com/70448. Estimated price is probably $250-$300/person for the week.

We are actually very serious about this! We are 100% going so if anyone is even remotely interested, let one of us know in the next few weeks.

Other thoughts...

-Mammoth Lakes has a Safeway, and they have the best moose tracks ice cream.
-The Mammoth Track Club essentially offers this same trip in the form of a running camp that costs $3000 per person!
-Unlike Colorado or the PacNW during the summer, you're pretty much guaranteed sunny skies and dry weather 95% of the time in the Sierras that time of year.
-The best local runners (Meb, Morgan Uceny, etc) will be leaving for London around that time, so we won't be the slowest people in town  Wink

I should have known Jake's number 1 reason would be for the ice cream...

Hmmmm ... unless you would rather consider Flagstaff!! Ryan Hall is usually there at least some of the time in the Summer (meaning it is a good place to train ;-) ) ... and they have good ice cream too!
