So can we start a Painter's half topic?

I have two questions:

I would like a reference on a mid-range hotel/motel room.  One without lumpy beds (like the one we stayed in for St. George Marathon) and one with free breakfast.  Any suggestions?  It looks like my husband and kids will be coming.

Are there any plans to have a blog get together?  We could reserve a banquet room at a restaurant so that the St. Georger's don't experience more than their share of hosting.  I would love to see you all other than at the starting and finish line.

I am getting excited!

Although I have not yet signed up for it (I know, I am a slacker),  I am very excited to be able to meet you guys who have been giving me inspiration and some motivation along the way!!

As far as a get together, I think that would be awesome.  I am cool with whatever.

Michelle - the only St. George hotel I've ever stayed in is the Holiday Inn (which we do every Dec. 23-24). It is really comfy, but has no continental breakfast.

Ruth - don't you live in St. George?  If so, why would you stay at the Holiday Inn?

I have heard good things about the Fairfield Inn by the convention center.  Both times I ran SGM, we stayed at the Coronada Inn and Suites, which was certainly adequate, although I don't believe they have free breakfast.  So far, the hotels I would trust that have breakfast would be:

Fairfield Inn by Mariott (these are designed for business travelers, so they should be pretty comfy)
Hampton Inn
Mariott - TownePlace Suites St. George

All are what I would consider to be "midrange", although the last one is probably more expensive.

We are actually thinking about renting an RV and driving up there instead of staying at a hotel.  I know it would probably be more expensive, but since we are taking the kids, it would probably be a lot more fun for them.

We always stay at the Crystal Inn on Hilton Dr.  They have free breakfast (waffles, eggs, cereal, fruit, juice, etc.) and the rooms are pretty nice.  I think that it is between $85 and $100 per night.

It's a family tradition for Christmas! We check in on the 23, party all night and wake up late and relax all Christmas Eve. Much fun.

BTW, if you check out the Painter's Half course, it starts and finishes at the Dixie Convention Center.  Another reason to get a room at the Fairfield Inn - literally only about 1/4 mile from the start/finish line, if that.  If we decide not to drive up in an RV, we will probably try to stay there, if we can.

I think we should be able to do quite well without a hotel, unless somebody has exceptional interest in investing into St. George hospitality industry.  For me, seeing an FRB member pay for a hotel in a place where bloggers are present is like watching a male FRB racing team member get chicked by an non-FRB runner. Let's have a show of hands of what our St. George bloggers can offer in the way of taking in guests.

Their is always room at my parents house.  Jon, Marci and their baby stayed in the extra room where it was okay for the baby to cry.  Let me know if anyone needs a place to stay.

I appreciate the effort Sasha and if I were going down alone I would try to bum a bed off of someone.  But my husband and three boys (THREE BOYS!!!! 7.5, 5.5 and 3.5) are coming, and we would just be more comfortable with our own space.  If anyone is up in Utah County and needs a place to stay we have a large guest bedroom we would be happy to host.

We would love for someone down there to host a get together or suggest a public place, like a restaurant, for a get together.

Michelle:
We are coming together with the whole gang. That is, Sarah and myself + 5 kids, ages 8,7,5,3, and 1. We are staying with Steve Hooper. We actually find it a lot easier to deal with the kids when they are at a house. When we stay at a hotel, they are jumping around the room like a collection of bouncy balls. When they are at a house, especially if the house has other little kids already, you can just send them to the backyard to play with their new friends.

That brings up the question - is there anyone else in St. George who would have room for a family of 5?  We are considering a bunch of options, including possibly renting an RV (for the scenic value) or staying at the Fairfield, but would certainly love to stay with a family up there if it is not too much of an inconvenience.

Sorry Michelle  forget to look at the discussion boards and just saw this one. The Best Western Abby Inn is pretty good and they do have a continental breakfast. It is pretty close to the Dixie Center as well.

Hey all,

My husband and kids are now staying home, so I am looking for space in someones home if anyone has an extra bed they can share.  I have about 8 hours to cancel my hotel room if I find somewhere to shack up.

Thanks!
