The Associated Press

Monday, May 10, 2010 | 9:56 a.m.

A 25-year-old Henderson man has been sentenced to seven to 20 years in state prison for driving under the influence of alcohol when hitting and killing a relay race runner from Utah last October.

Joshua Salayich wept and sought leniency from a Clark County District Court judge who also heard sobbing family members describe their pain at the death of 33-year-old Jeremy Kunz.

Kunz was a married father of three from Kamas, Utah. He was taking part in a 180-mile Ragnar Relay run from Valley of Fire State Park to the Red Rock Resort when he was struck and killed in Henderson on Oct. 10.

Salayich pleaded guilty in January as part of a plea deal that had prosecutors dropping a charge of leaving the scene of the crash. Authorities say his blood-alcohol level was .26.

I agree with Sasha.  But to admit it usually gets me in trouble.  However, my sister is permantly brain damaged due to her husband driving drunk, so I say yes to prohibition.
They never really did say a lot about the situation at Del Sol.  I don't think that driver was drunk.  The kid just ran out in front of him.

Sasha - no, he was not drunk
- Burt's post addressed lack of additional information on the fatality at Ragnar Del Sol, not Ragnar Las Vegas

http://www.examiner.com/x-20114-Phoenix-Running-Examiner~y2010m3d1-Tragedy-strikes-the-Ragnar-Del-Sol-Relay-Race

"Graves reported the driver of the Solara, who was from Morristown, stayed at the scene and cooperated with DPS investigations and did not show any signs of impairment."

Never mind, I did not realize we were talking about a different accident.
