No matter what you do, everyone is at risk for injury.  You have to feel bad for Paula- the world record holder but she has never won an Olympic gold.  Most marathons are annual, so we can always say "next year."  Not for an Olympian, though.

To be elite you have to train to a point that injury is a probable outcome, just hopefully not at the wrong time.

Agreed...elite = pushing yourself to the brink and often, if not always getting injured in the process. Sad though. She's still a superstar though.

Well, she's holding out hope - she has said she will know in 4 weeks if she will be able to prepare for Beijing or not.

If she does get healed up before the olympics she'll definitely be in the running for a medal. Quite an amazing athlete to run through nearly an entire pregnancy and win a marathon only a few months later.
