Hot spots to run Downtown Portland/Seattle

Hi all,
I'll be visiting downtown Portland and Seattle from Chicago for the first time in a few weeks. I'm thrilled to be visiting and running in the Pacific Northwest! I'm planning my runs ahead of time and want to know where I can get some good long runs in (ie; good, safe parks that have little vehicle traffic). I'll be in the Pearl District in Portland and am staying near Pike's Place Market in Seattle. I'm willing to hop on a bus, too, to get to a good running spot.
Just thought I'd run it past you guys to see what advice you have on great running locations as I've never been out to that part of the country. Can't wait!
Thanks, beth
