Title: KML import in the Course Tool and Ogden Map
Post by: Sasha Pachev on October 13, 2007, 07:50:20 pm
I have added the support for KML file upload in the Course Tool (the file format used by Google Earth), and loaded Paul's Ogden map. It should be used with the crazy grade cut-off of 4% because we get into the river a few times in the Ogden Canyon. Compared to St. George with the crazy grade cut-off of 6% (again to compensate for ditch visits), the current integration algorithm gives us a difference of only 6 seconds a mile at 5:20 pace, or around 2:36 for the whole distance. This is quite obviously wrong. The integration algorithm has two known problems - no altitude adjustment for flat speeds, and no adjustment in the hill slow-down calculation for altitude - as we have seen in WBR, all the predictions were out the window when we hit the uphill at over 6000 feet.
