Title: The Uneventful Half Marathon
Post by: Sasha Pachev on August 21, 2009, 11:07:36 am
For those who did not get into Hobble Creek or TOU Half or who are not willing to pay the entry fees.

Jeff and I are going to be pacing Ben Crozier for a 1:30 Half on a loop course that starts and ends at my house tomorrow, August 22, 2009 at 6:30 AM. Anybody is welcome to join.

We approached Hobble Creek with a proposal that I would pace the women's leader for 1:11:30, and Jeff would help the men's leader run 1:05:00, but they did not appear to be exceptionally interested. Yes, there was a woman in the field that I believe is capable of 1:11:30 (Lindsey Dunkley), and yes, Jeff is capable of 1:05:00 on that course. It was a little surprise to me that the race directors would be rather confused by the proposal, but it was also very revealing.

So in any case, we offered not to waste our training run, and we still do not want to waste our training run and get something good done. So anybody who is shooting for anything faster than 1:38 is welcome to come. Jeff and I can split as necessary if we have several runners of different abilities.

So come tomorrow to 339 N 1120 W in Provo at 6:30 AM. RSVP either through a private message to me or call 801-788-4608 so we will not start without you.

Afterwards, we are going to run another 7 hard (5:50-6:00 pace), you can join us for that as well.

Sasha, I think they are a bit jealous I'm not sure. I am surprised that they would not let you both in.  That does not sound like the Hawk Harper I know.  Strange..   You said that you gleaned some insight on their thinking about it all?

I think they have forgotten what it's like to race. Good things are easy to forget.

Jon - we will probably do another Uneventful next week. If my foot is feeling normal, I'll probably be the one getting paced. Others can join. If you cannot keep up, we can make the course map/description. We could even have a clock to make it fancy! Stay tuned.
