Title: snow running
Post by: Jonathan Loschi on December 26, 2008, 09:20:08 pm
Lots of broken patches of snow and ice in Boise. It doesn't lend itself well to the Yak Trax.  Has anyone ever used screws on their shoes...if so, how is it working?  I just read somewhere about someone use hexagonal sheet metal screws but I can't find the site.

thanks
JON

They work pretty well. You have to use hex screws. Regular round screws won't do anything. Here's what you want:

#6 1/2" hex screws. Use a drill to put your pilot holes in the sole of the shoe. Put about 4 around the exterior of the heel- that's where you want most of them. Disperse another 4 around the mid and forefoot.

They had very good directions in the latest issue of Runners World---look at the library if you do not have access to it.
