Title: To all the SGM runners with weather related slow times...
Post by: Dallen on October 04, 2008, 07:52:37 pm
Rather than post the same comment on everyone's blog, I will comment here.

I ran an unbelievably slow time in the Chicago marathon heat last year. Initially I was a little upset that I was never able to see the fruits of all my training efforts. As time went on I quickly realized that the race would ultimately be remembered as one of my favorites anyway. All the other races are essentially the same. When I am old I will not be telling my grandchildren about the marathons where I knocked a few minutes off of my PR. They won't care. I will be telling them about that day when I ran in terrible conditions and barely survived. (I'm sure the details will get worse as I get older)

My point... don't worry about a single bad day. Enjoy it for what it was, whatever that might have been. Next year come back and try that much harder.

And, even if you had a slow day, congratulations.

Great way to look at things!  It's already been fun telling people about today's conditions!  I can't wait to see how it sounds several years down the road when I make it even more exciting! :o)

Yeah, I'm sure my stories will get better with time.  It will definitely be a race to remember.
