Title: Once a Runner available to read
Post by: Jon Allen on September 17, 2008, 07:57:18 am
Andy has been nice enough to start passing his copy of Once a Runner around to the bloggers.  Paul, Cody, and I have all finished it and all I can say is that it is an outstanding, entertaining book.  It is by far the best novel I have ever read in terms of exploring the thoughts, humor, and insights of a runner.

Andy says we can continue to circulate the book among the blog members.  If you are interested in reading it, taking care of it, and then passing it along, let me know.  I can easily deliver it to anyone running TOU this week or St. George in a few weeks.

I would love to read it if it ever makes it's way down to St. George.

Done.  I'll bring it for the marathon and give it to you first.

I'll vouch that it is quite good. I read it in one day. I imagine that the Circle of Trust can get through it in a week, less if you all get together and read it out loud to each other. If Clyde reads it to his unborn child he/she will have 25% more Quality X.

Who is the author of this book? I am in Colorado and probably can't participate in your exchange. However, I am interested in trying to find the book on my own.

The author is John L. Parker. We're passing it around because it is out of print and difficult to find for under $100. That said, they are releasing a new edition in April '09 in hardcover. You can pre-order it on Amazon for $16.

Also, there is the sequel: "Again to Cathage". I have not read this yet.

I think we will all gather around Old Man Hooper's feet and have him read it to us - can we still gain quality x at age 30?

Yes, you can continue to gain Quality X until age 90 or so. Unless you lack discipline.

If you read "Once a Runner" and "Running with the Buffaloes" simultaneously (one book in each hand), you will get triple word score on your qX.

My buddy Pat lent me his copy of "Running with the Buffalos" to read on my business trip next week, I have heard it is a great read as well.

After "Once a Runner" has circulated down south, us northerners would like a shot at it for motivation in the cold winter months.

I'll read it to my unborn baby. But I like the thought of Steven Abraham Lincoln Post Hooper reading it to us all at once a lot better.

If Steve Abraham Lincoln Hooper Esquire has cookies and milk, I am there to listen all day long!

I really liked Once a Runner. I recently read the sequel. Not as good. However, more fitting for many of the bloggers including myself. The main character comes back and moves up from the mile to the marathon... It had a lot of sub-plots that never went anywhere but it was still worth the read.

-- ok Paul, this post almost made me spit water on my keyboard (not quite out of my nose).  Lucky for you I did not!

Both of these books and Again to Carthage are great reads.  Are you guys saying that Steve Hooper is going to make the "books on tape" series for these?
