Title: Most Common Injuries
Post by: Steve Morrin on June 24, 2008, 10:32:07 am
I myself have found that I have injured my knee the most. What about everyone else?

Foot is a close second for me.

Yes. I would have to agree with that one. I've injured my foot twice before, so it would have to come behind knee injuries.

I rarely ever get foot or knee injuries. Lately it has been glute and hamstring problems, and a few years ago I was stuck with what felt like chronic shin splints.

I'd be curious to know if some people are more susceptible to muscular injuries (pulls, strains, tears), some to skeletal injuries (stress fractures, back, hip), and some to connective tissue (ligaments, tendons).  I know I have never had any real muscle problems, with most of my injuries being stress fractures and various knee problems.

Yeah. I agree. All of my injuries have been to my bones and joints. So far, none to my muscles at all. I'm sure that it depends on what sort of things you do to get injured that determines what part you injure.

Low back, SI joint area.  This has sidelined me more than anything else.

Hmm...that is interesting. I haven't ever met any runner who's gotten a back injury before.

You haven't been running very long.

No, I actually haven't. I only started a year ago right before my freshman year of high school.

I don't think it is a real common injury in high school.  But then again, running doesn't stop after high school, and neither does aging and wear and tear on the body.

Yeah. High schoolers definitely have a lot younger bodies...and less wear and tear on them.

I never had back problems until after I started having kids.  As long as I stretch faithfully and keep my core strong the problem doesn't get that bad.  But I still get flair ups once in a while even doing those things.  Like right know my right SI joint is tender.
