Title: 1 mile times
Post by: Laszlo Otvos on June 13, 2008, 12:45:36 pm
Our running club we'll host a 1 mile race in August and we would like to award running excellence with prize-money. The goal is to award folks who can break a certain time.

What do you think would be a decent time for almost all ages and abilities? It can't be too hard but it can't be too easy either. My opinion is 4:45 for guys and 5:15 for girls? Remember, end of August is off-season in Tucson.

Any feedback? Thanks a lot!

How many people are running, what are their ages/abilities, and what is your budget?

If you put out a reasonable number you are likely to get a bunch of people showing up who can do it. That would probably severely limit the amount of money you can give.

Not to shoot down the idea, but you definitely need to cap it like other races do. Top 3 per age group and gender. Maybe a special prize for the fastest time or something would be nice.
