Title: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on February 19, 2008, 08:30:19 am Alright, even though it's still a few months off, I need to start thinking about and filling the rosters for Wasatch Back. The deal for this year is that we have two comped teams that will fly under the banner of FRB/St.Geo Running Center. We aim to make these teams as competitive as possible. Based on who we get onboard, we will either load the Top 12 people on one team to go for the win, or if the teams are strong enough, we could distribute people evenly and try to go 1-2. Based on our experience last year, I think going 1-2 is possible if we get the right people for it.
I'd like to recruit 26-28 people for the Wasatch Back. The race is June 21-22, and we will start around 5PM. Based on sheer probability, at least 2-4 people will get injured before the race, hence the extra people. If there are still extras on raceday, then we will have drivers. Our entries our free, so the only expenses are gas money and whatever food you eat. And we'll win. You won't find this anywhere else!! By April, we will distribute our pool of runners onto each team, based on abilities and recent training/race performances. We are looking for runners much like those that are on the Del Sol team (sub-2:40 marathon). If we end up with 12 sub-2:40 people and 12 sub-2:30 people, I think we will be fast enough to have "even" teams and go 1-2, which would be pretty awesome. Here's the list of people who have contacted me or Sasha already saying they want in: 1. Paul Petersen 2. Sasha Pachev 3. Clyde Behunin 4. Cody Draper 5. Walter Brown 6. Drew Michener 7. Seth Wold 8. James Barnes 9. Jon Allen 10. Dustin Ence 11. Logan Fielding 12. Dave Holt 13. Jeff McCellan 14. Tyler Cannon 15. Ted Leblow 16. Kory Wheatley 17. Adam Calcio 18. Steve Hooper 19. James Moore 20. Adam Wende 21. Nick Bolinder 22. Mitch Zundell 23. Steve Olsen 24. Steve Ashbaker Alt1. Alt2. Alt3. Alt4. Okay, so on paper we have a full team, but reality, we can count on a few people getting hurt. I'd like to get a total of 28 names on this list. If someone does get hurt, or if there ends up being a surplus, they can count on being drivers and night-bike pacers (which is actually more tiring than running). Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Logan Fielding on February 19, 2008, 08:37:54 am I am in as well if you'll take me.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on February 19, 2008, 08:44:39 am I am in as well if you'll take me. Great. I figured you would. I'll just add people to the list at the top of the thread as I get replies. Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Jon Allen on February 19, 2008, 09:28:15 am Kid is due June 11, so she should have made her arrival by then and will not be a conflict. Bigger concern is potential wedding of sis-in-law on June 21. But still count on me for now.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Dallen on February 19, 2008, 10:36:48 am Wish I could, hopefully next year.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Dave Holt on February 19, 2008, 10:57:29 am I think I should be a pretty solid yes - If you'll accept me.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on February 19, 2008, 11:08:51 am I think I should be a pretty solid yes - If you'll accept me. Definitely. Hey, is there any chance you St. George guys can talk Hobie into doing it? Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Dustin Ence on February 19, 2008, 12:10:39 pm I would like to do it again. Hobie moved back to Idaho about a month ago, at least that is what I was told from the guy where he had been living the last few months, so I don't know if that would work. I wonder if Nick McCombs is planning to run with BYU again?
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on February 19, 2008, 12:28:41 pm I wonder if Nick McCombs is planning to run with BYU again? I would much prefer he run with us! :-) Actually, I haven't even seen a BYU team registered yet. If someone down in Dixie-land could talk to Nick and invite him onboard, that would be great. Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: James Barnes on February 19, 2008, 05:39:53 pm That team looks like a first place team to me! We should be able to come up with another one to rival it.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: adam on February 20, 2008, 02:48:45 pm I'm in if things get seriously, seriously desperate. ;)
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Kory Wheatley on February 20, 2008, 04:18:40 pm I would need to check my schedule, but I would be interested in running if it fits in my plans for those dates.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on February 20, 2008, 04:30:14 pm Great guys, I've added both of you to the pool.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: stevehooper on February 21, 2008, 02:10:19 pm I think I'll be in better shape by the time the race rolls around - if you have room.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Barry Ames on March 02, 2008, 07:15:27 pm Paul,
I am interested in running with the team. Can you send me more information on the race? My e-mail is amesbarr33@yahoo.com or my running blog is http://barry.fastrunningblog.com/ if you have any questions let me know. Thanks, Barry Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: James Moore on March 02, 2008, 11:58:12 pm I'd love to do that, but I may not be fast enough...we'll see in Boston.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on March 03, 2008, 08:11:56 am James - you look plenty fast enough as it is. I'll add you to the list. Good luck in Boston.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Adam R Wende on March 03, 2008, 10:06:16 pm Paul, After Del Sol I can say I love relays. I have a 90% confirmation from my wife that those dates should be fine. If you have a use for me count me in.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Jon Allen on March 04, 2008, 07:11:12 am Like I told jtshad, for those of you who did RDS and loved it, you will love WBR even more! It is on your home turf (for most of us), it is prettier, more challenging, bigger, less running on big highways and fewer stoplights, and a lot more competition. Plus, you get the whole relay mentatility, only sleeping a few hours, running at 2 am in the middle of who knows where... fabulous!
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on March 26, 2008, 09:22:37 am bump up to top...
Hey, we still need 4-6 more people! Don't be shy. Again, we're looking for people that are sub-2:40:00, 1:17:00, 35:00, 17:00 for marathon/half marathon/10K/5K. Our goal is to take 1st and 2nd overall in the relay. Reply to this post if you want a spot. Also, if you know someone who fits the criteria and may be interested, send them here. Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Adam R Wende on March 26, 2008, 09:25:33 am Sorry Paul. I was the last one to say yes and once people saw that I was on board they all got afraid ;)
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Jon Allen on March 26, 2008, 09:46:14 am They just know they can't top you, Adam, so don't want to try...
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Steve on April 04, 2008, 12:12:06 am I would like to participate if possible.
Thank you, Steve Olsen St. George, UT Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Paul Petersen on April 04, 2008, 07:52:50 am Good! I was hoping you'd be in, Steve. If we can get Steve Ashbaker to sign on, we will have three people named "Steve"...
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: jtshad on April 21, 2008, 08:11:18 am I might be available after all for the WBR, I will get confirmation soon but it is looking 50/50 that I could be on the team (yeah! We are likely having Katelyn's birthday party on her actual day, not the weekend!).
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Cody Draper on April 21, 2008, 08:21:51 am I might be available after all for the WBR, I will get confirmation soon but it is looking 50/50 that I could be on the team (yeah! We are likely having Katelyn's birthday party on her actual day, not the weekend!). We would love to have you! We will be registering the team members this week, so we would need to know asap. Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: James Barnes on April 21, 2008, 02:16:09 pm Yeah Jeff, We would love to have you on a team. Let us know if it will work for you. Even if you aren't totally sure we can use a few alternates.
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: jtshad on April 21, 2008, 03:34:24 pm I would love to join you for this relay, Del Sol was a blast. I will try to let you know later this week (I am on travel starting tomorrow). I will talk with my wife some more to get her concurrence, but for now can you at least add me as an alternate?
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Cutika99 on April 25, 2008, 10:37:04 am I am interested in running although I don't have much of an idea what it consists of. I read some info. on the website and it looks like a blast. I just moved here from Michigan where we ran something called the Great Lakes Relay -- three days and about 300 miles for teams of 10. I'm assuuming it is something like that?
Anyway, if you'd have me I'd love to run. I guess I'll give some credentials. Last fall I ran 1:16 for a half in Lansing, MI. My best marathon is 2:37:12 (2005) and last summer I ran 15:57 for 5k in Flushing, MI. Please contact me via email at mrcuttitta@yahoo.com or call at 810-625-3761. Also, if someone would like some running company in Heber City / Park City /SLC, let me know. I'm getting sick of running by myself all the time. Thanks, Steve Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Adam R Wende on April 25, 2008, 11:17:40 am Is today the day for the Blue/White split announcement?
Title: Re: Wasatch Back Relay recruiting Post by: Cody Draper on April 25, 2008, 01:35:26 pm Not today, but hopefully by Sunday or Monday at the latest. We are still waiting for certain people to get back to us. If you are one of them, yep we are waiting on YOU!
