Title: Painter's St. George Pre-Race Party
Post by: Christi on January 04, 2008, 10:21:54 am
Hey Bloggies! Looking for your input and a headcount for the Painter's 1/2 and 5k Pre Race Party Fri. Jan. 18th 6-8pm.  I have reserved 2 rooms (no cost yet) for a week while we finalize.  1st Option: Pasta Factory, Private Room- all you can eat pasta, drinks, salad $10 a person (not sure about kids cost, I will find out) 2nd Option: Rent room at Quality Inn Hotel.  They will allow us to bring in food so we can do a potluck, its $50 for use of the room.  Let's vote and get a head count.  Thanks!

Can you find out whether kids count as one person for the hotel room, too?  I have two adults and three kids coming.  They aren't really excited about a blogger party, but they will be tagging along.  Also, the $10 pasta sounds reasonable to me for adults, but I am hoping there is a kids price if we go that route.  Otherwise I'll bring tuna fish sandwiches for the kiddies! j/k that's just mean.

Christi - good job, you've figured it out! Hopefully your breakthrough will increase the participation on the forum from the non-computer minded women on the blog.
Potluck sounds like a great idea. Since we do not eat out, we will be doing potluck regardless. Plus, you really do not want to be doing all you can eat the night before a long race. This might create some VPB issues next morning right when you are about to make a move to get a PR.

Don't care - either way is great - but for the the head count part, I'm in! :)

On second thought, Pasta Factory would be lots easier.

Christi,
It doesnt matter to me either way but I think Pasta Factory would probably be the easiest. I am planning on coming, I doubt my husband will come but if thats changes I will let you know.

I'll vote for the potluck!  We can't have a blogger party without the Pachevs!  So far, I think I am coming alone.  I'll let you know if that changes.  (I'm still waffling a little bit between soloing it and hauling the whole fam. up there.  The issue is that we just barely came back from a road trip with the kiddos and they don't like all the driving.)

And THANKS CHRISTI for heading this all up.  You're the BEST!

Hey Guys!

Thanks for the feedback.  Sasha- thanks for your clear instructions to help me post stuff on the blog! I love this blog- you're awesome!

Looks like we're kinda split between Pasta Factory & Potluck.  I like the Pasta Factory idea because its easy and convenient. I called the restaurant and kids are $5. Also, the price includes breadsticks too which I forgot to mention earlier. I agree w/ Sasha though, we aren't going to want to stuff ourselves- but basically you get pasta w/ your choice of 2 toppings and chicken (if you want it), salad, drink & breadsticks (and its all you can eat- maybe the spouses/non runners will take advantage of that?) They said we can bring in our own desserts if we'd like (not that many of the runners will be eating dessert, but hey- there's family members to consider-right?)So I'm thinking if some people QUIETLY bring in some food (like a sandwich here or there) it would be Ok, but they won't like us bringing in big potluck dishes.  So -just some more info for ya.  Majority rules on this one.  I'll leave it open for a couple more days for your feedback.  Looking forward to seeing you all at which ever place we decide on! Happy training!

As I've said before, I'm in for Pasta Factory. Hopefully they won't mind Sasha coming with his own food. It will just be too hard to potluck spaghetti and harder on the out-of-towners. Plus Pasta Factory is SO yummy! Count me in (just one) unless I tell you different. I haven't signed up for anything yet, but I think I'll be here regardless.

Lybi- even James isn't coming? Isn't he running? How can you run your first half without the hubby there to cheer you on? I guess you'll have the whole FRB cheering crowd so it won't matter!

I think that the Past Factory sounds great to me too!  I'll try to hold off and not stuff myself and the husband will be happy there too.  Potluck would be good but it is hard without creating a lot of work for someone and it's really not about the food, just fun to get together and visit!

Cool.  I'll leave it open for a couple more days for feedback.  Looks like Pasta Factory is winning out (I'm sorry Sasha & Lybi!) Michelle- I'm excited to meet your husband, are your other kids coming too? I hope you 1/2 marathon runners are getting psyched!! I'm getting psyched to see you all!

Our family will skip anything that requires us to pay an entry fee of some kind. Even if it is $5/person, this would make $35 for the food we are not going to eat. We never pay that much of one meal even if we are eating it (if we did, the blog would have never been created).
As an alternative, we can just get together in a non-food situation, e.g for a shake out run/post-run social.

Sasha-
I dont think you have to pay an entry fee at Pasta Factory if you are not going to eat, I dont think they would make you pay at all. I am sure they would not mind if you brought your own food. We could just let them know the situation from the beginning and they would most likely be more than happy to oblige.
Question-just curious if you do eat out what place can you find that your whole family can eat at for less than 35.00 that fits your nutritional guidelines?

Christi,
Thanks for putting things together for a blog party.  Tom and I will not be able to make it to this one.  Sorry.  We thought we better let you know so you know how many to plan on.

Hey Guys- Kim, thanks for the update.  I'm sorry we won't see you Friday, but look forward to seeing you on race day! Sasha- there is no fee to come to private room at pasta factory and hang out.  Only charged if you order food.  They told me they were Ok with people bringing in a LITTLE food, but they don't want us bringing in Pot Luck dishes.  I hope you guys can come.  Otherwise- in addition to the Pasta Factory dinner I like the idea of a post race hangout- heck- we can hang out there at the finish (well- Sasha would have to wait a long time for the rest of us- but still...LOL)

Hey Christi - If you would like we can all get together at my place - I have no problem having the St. George Running Center Sponsor A PreRace Pasta dinner at our place. That way families with kids can them go play/ watch a movie and everyone doesn't have to pay anything.  Let me know your thoughts?

Being as lazy as I am, I vote for that :-) We would not have to go anywhere.

Steve- I think that would be awesome!! Are you sure? I would be happy to help w/ food, or pitch in a few bucks- whatever.  I feel bad I can't offer my home for hosting 'cause its currently a fixer upper nightmare.  If you're cool with that then let's spread the word on the blog I guess?! BTW- I plan on getting into your shop in the next few days for shoes!

I think Steves house sounds great. However, I think we should all chip in so he is not paying for this on his own. SG Running Center sponsers alot running events and I dont think a party for us all should have to be one of them.

Absolutely Marcie! We all need to pitch in a few bucks and also see what we can do to help prepare and/ or bring food.

Allison and I will be about the same time as Logan, hopefully.  All I know is Steve lives in Washington, so I would need directions as well.

Steve- You know I'm coming, but there will be 4 of us.  Jim, me & our 2 kids.  I can bring a big salad if you can cook pasta? Then everyone else bring a side dish? What do you think? Just let me know what I do to help!

Update - I've fixed the HTML issues with the map. This forum is high-security - it does not allow complex HTML to be posted, and for a good reason - to keep your browser from being hacked, keep your personal info from falling into the wrong hangs, etc.

It will now only be me for the pasta party, my husband and kids are now staying home.  So I am looking for a guest bed if anyone has one available so I can cancel my hotel room and save that money.  So if anyone has space, please let me know asap!  Thanks!

OK, here is the Sasha Science predictions for the race. I would not do it before a serious race not to mess anybody up, but this is a fun race to test Sasha Science on. I did check the weather, and I am assuming a course reasonably similar to what we ran in 2006. I am assuming 32 degrees and no wind, nearly ideal conditions for the half.

Hobbie Call 1:08:00
Nick McCombs 1:10:00
Logan Fielding 1:12:15
Little Bad Legs 1:12:30
Sasha Pachev 1:12:45
Dave Holt  1:13:15
Ted Leblow 1:15:00
James Barnes 1:16:00
Steve Hooper 1:20:00
Michelle Lowry 1:22:50
Dustin Ence 1:23:00
Tom Lee 1:25:00
Marcie Jacobsen 1:26:00
Mike Warren 1:27:00
Wildbull  1:30:00
Christi  1:55:00
Mik'l 1:59:00
Kim Lee 2:03:00
Michelle from Richfield 2:07:00

Sorry if I missed anybody, feel free to follow up if I did. If you think I am predicting too slow of a time for you, I'd be happy to see you prove me wrong in the race (much more effective than a pre-race argument of why you think you are faster). If you think it is too fast, I hope you will prove yourself wrong. Do not slow down on purpose just to prove me wrong :-)

For Ted, I am assuming an all out race from the gun. His knee has been bothering him lately, so he may not go all out. For some people in the absence of recent racing, or due to drastic training changes for the good or the bad the prediction does not have as high of a level of confidence as for others.

Post by: Michelle Lowry on January 17, 2008, 03:26:49 pm
I think Ruthie is running it and going to start out with Marcie and I.  Josse is also running it but not as a race.  Two people I am aware of that you left off.  I wouldn't hazard a guess at their times given my lack of training in Sasha Science.

Title: Re: Painter's St. George Pre-Race Party
Post by: Dave Holt on January 18, 2008, 07:56:57 am
Well, last year Hobie ran a 1:07 something.  Not knowing what is going on with his training or anything, I would conclude that he would probably run that or faster with a quality field like this looming instead of just me 7 minutes behind him.  Assuming he is coming of course.

Title: Re: Painter's St. George Pre-Race Party
Post by: Sasha Pachev on January 18, 2008, 09:42:15 am
Last year the course was short.

Title: Re: Painter's St. George Pre-Race Party
Post by: Christi on January 18, 2008, 10:23:35 am
Oh Sasha I hope I can meet your prediction! Its funny you put 1:55 for me because after last night's run I decided that would be my GOLD goal! I'm gonna set my virtual partner for it anyway and we'll see- if all the stars are aligned JUST RIGHT- maybe, but it will be tough.  I think Kim is running too- so you may want to include her time too if you have a sec.  See ya tonight!

P.S. I'm bummed that we're losing Lybi & Michelle tomorrow (whahhhh)

Title: Re: Painter's St. George Pre-Race Party
Post by: Dave Holt on January 18, 2008, 10:23:52 am
Sasha, that is true.  When measuring this year, last year's course came out to be about .1 short, so 30-40 seconds.

So how accurate was Sasha Science?

By the way, great job, everyone.  FRB practically swept the whole thing, from what I see.
