Title: QUESTION ABOUT QUALIFYING FOR BOSTON
Post by: Royce on August 26, 2010, 03:35:31 pm
If I qualify at a race held in December, that means that I wont be able to go till the next Boston rolls around and by that time I will be 45 years old.
So my question is what qualifying time do I have to meet?
I have been told that the qualifying time is for the age your at, at the time you run the
Boston that you qualified for......did that make any sense?  Help I'm confused.

From the Boston Marathon website:

"The qualifying times below are based upon each athlete's age on the date of the Boston Marathon in which they are participating."

So, if you run a 3:30 at age 44 in the qualifying window, but subsequently turn 45 before the Boston Marathon, your time would be a qualifying time in the 45-49 AG (which has a 3:30 standard).

But don't take my word for it.  I haven't run it yet.  Go to the source:

Cool that helps a lot.  That sounds like what I have heard from another source.

Dale is correct, you would need the time for a 45-49 year old category even though you ran your qualifer when 44.  The time is based on your age when you plan to run Boston.
