Title: High-Level Benchmarks for 3:15 marathon
Post by: Mitch on April 30, 2010, 08:20:43 am
For someone following the 10 miles/day (5 days/wk) + long run approach.  Are there a few standard benchmarks that can be used to gauge whether or not one is in sufficient form to run a 3:15 marathon?  Something like:  Can run 1/2 marathon in 1:30, 20 mile long run (10 @ 8:00/mi + 10 @ 7:00/mi), 6 X 1 mile @ 6:00/mi pace......  Appreciate your feedback!

Mitch:

You can use the predictor at http://www.asksasha.com/predictor.php

If you run a half in 1:30 off consistent 70 miles a week, you should have no problem with a 3:15 marathon.

You can also look up McMillanrunning.com to find a useful running calculator.  I find it to be amazingly close to accurate if you have the proper training in place.
