Title: Seeking opinions on this marathon course...
Post by: Snowy on April 18, 2010, 03:19:36 pm
This is a new marathon course I am considering for fall.  Winthrop Marathon in central Washington State

I am pretty lousy at judging courses by their elevation profile and would appreciate any opinions about this one.  Quad pulverizer or fun and fast?  (fyi, I do train on hills daily and am not a heel striker.)   Thanks a lot.

If you train properly for long downhills, and make sure you don't go out too fast, you should be fine on this.  It's all about training.

Those hills at the end do not look fun.  In fact, they look down right rotten.

Looks very similar to Top of Utah. Maybe a bit faster. But elevation profiles are deceiving. You need to run the course to really know it. Nevertheless, from the looks of it you need to practice running fast on long downhill sections without getting beat up.
