Title: Do I Belong Here?
Post by: Chris Weidman on November 27, 2007, 02:35:41 pm
Ok everyone - I am new here - and am just getting back into running after a 1 1/2 year break in which I just lifted. I am a weight division/clyde runner (when the group is in a race) otherwise I try to compete with the "normal" age division people. I have been viewing several of your profiles and you all are "fast" (thus the name fast running blog) - so, when I am in competitive shape, I am "fast" for a clydesdale - but no where near you all - would it be alright for me to be a part of this site and contribute, post, etc ??

Absolutely! There is a wide range of runners here. Some people are trying to break 15 minutes in the 5K, others are trying to break 40 minutes. The common thread on this site is not speed, but is the desire to improve and to enjoy community. The blog will help keep you accountable and motivated, and you will also pick up a lot of good training tips, and probably meet some new people who live in your area as well. Plus, with your background, I imagine you know quite a bit about weights and nutrition that most of us don't know!

You belong!  It's the desire to get faster that is key to being a competitive runner, not where you are on that journey.  We have every range of competitor on this site and you will find that you have alot to offer, and we'll do our best to help you get out the door and stay positive about the sport.  There's nothing like knowing you'll have to admit you didn't run on the blog as a motivation to get out and get the run done!

Yes you belong, this is a very supportive community (even more so than the general running community) in that we help push you to achieve your goals and yours alone.  As has already been stated by Michelle and Paul, all runners are welcome.

Are you on the blog blog?  www.fastrunningblog.com?  What is your name on it?  I glanced quickly but didn't see you (maybe I just missed it)

There are plenty of not so fast runners on the blog. Everyone should feel welcome. Besides that, it looks like you could beat up at least a half dozen of us 98 puond weaklings, so we better not complain.

Do I belong? Many of us could ask the question, you run, you sweat you train, you aspire to improve.  Answer yes to these, you are part of great company on the blog.

I'm fairly new myself and I can say that you'll be welcomed by everyone just like I was.  I'm not the faster runner in the world, but am trying to work hard and get better, which is what this blog is great for.  Plenty of encouragement, advice, and support for all!

Absolutely, don't let the Fast in FastRunningBlog fool you. Just join and start blogging and you will find that you belong and will truly benefit from joining as well.

YES!  THis is a great community for providing motivation and support for each other, not to mention being able to schmooze with some "elite" runners and get training tips and advice.  Joining this blog and listening to others has helped me to remain injury free for almost a year now, and I have seen my times steadily drop as I have received encouragement and support from others regarding my training.  If you don't have a blog yet, join!  And let us know what your blog name is!

And let us know what your blog name is!

FYI, if you click on the little "world" icon below the avatar, you will go to the person's blog.

Hey Jediweed.  I actually noticed your blog when you first joined.  I have to admit, my first impression was WOW!  This guy's got the Utah Games Record for the 10K!  I am excited for you to dominate the Clydes division.  The Fast Running Bloggers are going to win every age division this coming year!!!  GO  FRB!  You are a great addition.  So glad to have you!

Welcome. I think it is always best to find the fastest group to join. It is the best way to get faster. I am so inspired by stories from Paul and Sean (among others). Then Paul does a great job of posting stories from higher up still (like his link to the Ryan Hall workout). I'm sure you will add much to the blog and hopefully gain much in return.
Paul, Thanks for the info about the little world link. There are still so many things here I have to learn, especially the non-running virtual world stuff...

Well, it sounds liek you have heard it enough, but I will add my two cents as well.  I remember thinking the same thing when I joined a little while ago.  I also live in St George and have received much help along the way from Steve at the running center.  It would be cool to meet up and maybe run with you some time.  I could always, use more motivation  :)
