Title: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Aaron Shakow on November 17, 2007, 06:40:39 pm I'm running my first marathon next Sunday, and am a little uncertain whether vaseline is going to do it over that distance for my often-tender nips. Precipitation fairly likely, and I sweat a lot besides. I wonder if someone has a favorite alternative technique (or a silly one, or an amusing horror story...)
Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Jon Allen on November 17, 2007, 06:44:30 pm Vaseline won't do squat. I put the little round band-aids over, and cover those with mole skin if I am real worried. Hurts to get off.
Another option- duct tape. Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Dawson Hinton on November 17, 2007, 06:57:59 pm Well, depending on how hairy your chest is, two band-aids in an X shape over each nip might do the trick. In the St George Marathon I did this. One of the sets fell off, but the other one held on for the whole race. Even if they fall off part way through the race, you can finish with the vasaline, and you should be far enough into the race that they won't really even start to hurt.

Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: jtshad on November 18, 2007, 08:17:55 am I've done well just using BodyGlide and have not had problems. Good luck at your race.
Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Cory Birt on November 18, 2007, 11:01:39 am I've had great success with generous applications of Aquaphor prior to long runs.
Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: James Winzenz on November 18, 2007, 11:32:27 am I have tried band-aids before, and found that they fell off. I tried bodyglide this year at SGM, and did not have any problems at all. YMMV
Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: AndyBrowning on November 18, 2007, 11:35:49 am Body Glide has always done the trick for me.

Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Logan Fielding on November 19, 2007, 09:20:44 am I love the title and am glad I can contribute to such a worthwhile discussion. I used tape in the trials but they fell off (first time ever!) I also have used actual nipguards that I got at the St. George Running Center. They work great. Tape with a little vaseline seems to take care of the trick.
Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Sasha Pachev on November 19, 2007, 11:28:23 am I've never done anything and never had problems. I do not have very much hair on my chest though, and my pectorial muscles are fairly small. I do wear a large size shirt that has a fairly loose fit. My height is 5-10 and my weight is 145.

Title: Re: Logan Fielding Syndrome Prevention Strategies Post by: Kory Wheatley on November 19, 2007, 04:44:59 pm I've always used Vaseline and it's always worked. But are bodies are all different and some may generate more sweat than others. I really believe it matters on the type of singlet/shirt your wearing.
