My 305 is only a year old. So by the time it wears out the 505 or 605 should be out.

The 405 is a lot smaller, but it looks like the data is crammed in on the screen. Hard to really tell though on the video.  I cannot wait to see it in person.

Here is the link from the Garmin Website - http://www8.garmin.com/ces/forerunner/index.html (http://www8.garmin.com/ces/forerunner/index.html)

Looks really cool. Too bad I can't justify buying it. My 305 is too new and I just don't use it all that often. Still, I'd love to upgrade.

As many of you know I just got the 305. Looking at the 405 it is the same the smaller size is "cute" but other than that the wireless transfer isn't that big of a deal. What I want them to do (I actually called) is have realtime tracking. They can do it for lowjack they should be able to do it for runners. My wife is always asking where I'm running I think it would be cool for her to "watch" me on Google earth or something... Also, if they could get that then tracking runners during races would be so much cooler!!! Until that I'll be happy with my 305... That or until they come up with a system that will give you VO2, blood glucose, muscle glycogen, etc realtime readouts during your run  :)

I will not spend a dime out of my own pocket on a Garmin until it is wheel-precise on the distance 99.9999% of the time with no flake outs. Until then, it is just something that is nice to have in a relay or on a non-certified course.

I will buy it if it plays music and makes me better-looking. I don't care about accuracy.

I'll ask if they will sell it in pink to go with the race shorts for the "big events"!

Cool but unnecessary. I couldn't care less about wearing it around the office. I would never wear a $300 watch as part of my wardrobe. The wireless is cool but I think the controls are going to be problematic because of how sensitive they will be. I can't imagine running a sib-7 minute pace and being able to scroll around and change things on the fly. The mechanical buttons are much easier for this.

I'm just upset because the plastic band on my ironman watch is breaking and it seems that the replacement bands are no longer made since the watch is no longer made...

I want to know where the gps receiver is and how it can be as accurate as the 205/305 while being that tiny.  Even with the 205/305, which I like very much, it is somewhat klunky compared to a normal watch, but I accept that because it is not designed to be a normal watch.  I agree with Sean, I would never pay $300 for something I would wear around the office - I would be too worried about banging it and breaking it.  Since my 205 cost me less than half the price of the 405 (after rebate), although I like the new look, I don't know that I would want to get it either.

Jon:
That is one reason I prefer a $10 watch from Walmart.

I hear ya. As long as it has a stopwatch and maybe a split memory, I'm good.

One of the things I always liked about running was that it was almost free. Doesn't cost much to play outside of a pair of shoes and a cheap watch.

Found a $9 replacement band today.  Should be good for at least another 5 years or so.

My concerns with the new garmin is the touch control, I wonder how sensitive is it if you exactly bump something.  I would hope the display is just as good as the other garmin's.  I would never wear a $300 dollar GPS around all day.  This would be too vulnerable wearing around the house or even at work.
