Holy cow, did any of you see this race?  Flotrack has the entire race on their site - it was amazing!  He closed with a 1:56 for his last 800, his last lap was a 56!  I was excited for Galen Rupp to get the AR in the 10,000 - which he would have done if Solinsky hadn't upstaged him!  Any comments on this?  What are your thoughts on Solinksy being the first non-African runner to break 27:00 in the 10,000?

Well, actually, Rupp took the old AR down too!!  it was an AWESOME race.  Dean and I were watching it in our hotel room on Saturday night and I am pretty sure we kept a few "close" neighbors up (well it was only 10PM !!).  This was a huge surprise!  Oregon Track Club rocks!

I am excited, with Americans running sub 13 in the 5K and now sub 27 in the 10K we might actually metal in the World Champs and Olympics!  We have so many good distance runners that are now able to mix it up on track.  I hope Webb gets healthy again!  With Webb, Manzano, Lomong, Teg, Ritz, Solinsky, Lagat, Wheating, Symmonds, etc. and then add in Barringer, Flannagan, Yoder-Beglay, Rowbury, and maybe even Goucher and Koll, US distance running actually has a chance at competing again on the world stage.

I agree, it's a big deal, a good sign for the future, esp with Teg and Ritz last year in the 5000m. 27:00 should have gone down a while ago, so this is a long time coming for the U.S. Still have a ways to go, but they are moving in the right direction.

Shows a white boy can go under 27:00 if he trains right. Hopefully this will help us get rid of the inferiority complex.

This was just an amazing performance to watch as he pulled away from the field!  First time for a non-African born man to accomplish this and a guy of his stature to boot!    Several good articles about his performance are out or linked on www.runningtimes.com.

wow that guy is fast. and cool that he is the EXACT height and weight as me (6'1", 160 lb). I thought I was too tall and fat to run real fast. Maybe I will rethink that. And cool he is a fellow Wisconsin native and alum. Go badgers!!

What was his time at the Pre Fontaine classic?  And what was the winning time?  I saw the race, but didn't pay attention to the times.
Jon - you almost have 1000 posts.  Way to go buddy!

Wow, that's a lot of posts.  I haven't checked my number for a long time and don't post as much as I used to, either- Paul is rapidly gaining on me now.  I'm not sure if it's good or bad that I've spent this much time on the FRB forum  Tongue

Solinsky ran 13:08 and got 6th or 7th place, I think.
