Ok, this was an interesting read and the video from the race shows the whole thing. Kind of disturbing in a painful way to see but also surprising as I would have never thought this could happen just from running. Considering this ended up being a compound fracture it is amazing that she was able to crawl to the finish. She broke both her tibia and fibula only 45 feet from the finish. The aritcle mentions it was probably a stress fracture that just gave way. Anyway an interesting read for runners.

If anyone can watch without flinching, they are tougher than I am.

Ouch!  Here is where listening to your body is really warranted...could have/should have stopped when she heard the first snap/felt the initial pain.  A good lesson indeed.

unbelievable. It hurt just to watch. Hats off to her for finishing her high school career with a finish, no matter the cost.

Part of me is an awe of her single-minded focus on finishing for her team.

Part of me is yelling at the video "LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!! IT'S TELLING YOU TO QUIT!!!!"

Deep down inside, I know we need people like that in the world.  Those who will press on even when everything and everybody says not to.
